One for Rosie

In January 2021 we were devastated to lose Morsbagger Extraordinaire Rosie Eley (Offcuts), who passed away with covid.

Rosie Eley, smiling — the Leicester Morsbagger known as Offcuts
Rosie Eley — “Offcuts” — a whirlwind of colour, chaos and kindness.

She was the most awesome whirlwind of a kind-hearted, passionate, rule-breaking, risk-taking, disruption-making, positive force of energy — without whom morsbags wouldn’t be what it is today, especially in the Leicester (UK) area.

Her pod still sits at the top of the pods table, and the many other pods she inspired locally are responsible for roughly a quarter of ALL morsbags ever made — a measure of her dedication to the cause, and to the whales.

50,000 labels in her memory

We’ve designed and ordered 50,000 new labels in her memory. So when you make a morsbag, perhaps you can give Rosie and her achievements a thought. Maybe make an odd-handled bag, or an extra-colourful one — she loved colour and a bit of chaos.

If you’d like to share what you’ve made, please use the hashtag #oneforrosie.

Thank you so much, Rosie. And thank you, everyone, for sewing.
