We’re heading to The Good Clothes Show at Manchester Central on 7–8 November, and we’re bringing a washing line. We’d like you to fill it.
The brief is the one we’ve always had: take some fabric that would otherwise be binned, turn it into a morsbag, and tell us what it used to be. The best ones win something lovely.
Three prizes
- Best Fabric Rescue into a Morsbag wins an incredible Janome DKS30 Special Edition sewing machine, from our friends at Janome UK, who are based just down the road in Stockport.
- Best Manchester Twist on a Morsbag wins three nights in a beautiful little riad in Fes, Morocco, with breakfast and a tannery tour (flights not included). This one is judged by crafting legend Leigh Francis.
- People’s Choice is voted for at the show by everyone who walks past the washing line. The prize is a mystery.
How to enter
- Sew it. Make a morsbag from rescued fabric. Never made one? Here’s how, with the pattern and an instructions video.
- Label it. Sew on a Morsbags label – get them here. Unlabelled bags can’t be judged, sorry.
- Tag it. Add a tag saying what the fabric used to be. I used to be… Granny’s curtains. My kid’s duvet cover. A tent. Pyjamas. A wine-stained tablecloth.
- Get it to us. Bring it to The Good Clothes Show at Manchester Central by midday on Sunday 8 November. Or post it by 1 November – email admin@morsbags.org for the postal address.
- Share it. Post it on Instagram or Facebook, tag three friends, and use #ManchesterMorsbag and #GoodClothesGoodMorsbags (plus #morsbags #goodclothesshow #janome #leighfrancis if you’ve room).
What counts as a Manchester twist?
Canals, cotton, football, suffragettes, the Northern Quarter, the Haçienda, Oasis, Joy Division, Factory Records, Corrie, Vimto… or something we haven’t thought of. Surprise us.
The washing line
Every entry hangs on the Morsbags Washing Line at the show. After judging, any bags not claimed back in person by the end of Sunday 8 November will be bagged on to new owners, in true Morsbags style.
