Usually, reports that include “despite the weather” phrases tell of fighting doggedly on in the teeth of howling gales and pouring rain. However…..
This one is different! Despite the fabulous, sunny weather we had a marvellous turnout, of mostly mums and kids in a nice, fairly even flow.
Our satnav was somewhat unhelpful and deposited us at the gates of RAF St. Mawgan and refused to add any more information. A quick phone call and we were on our way again. With only one diversion we arrived at the secluded campsite with its luxury crafts and tea tent.
Our first customers arrived promptly and had soon rustled up a couple of bags.
Phoebe here was very impressed to be using a sewing machine that is over 100 years old.
She was a super handle-turner and helped Tanya, campsite boss, make her bag later on.

All told, we made 12 bags and had a super afternoon out, with lovely people who had selected a campsite that offered craft opportunities, so, of course many were interested in what we do and why.
We had refreshing tea in fine vintage china cups and ate delicious (and enormous) cakes from matching delicate plates. The piece of yummy lemon and blueberry cake almost proved too big for me to finish (that doesn’t often happen 😀 ) but luckily Himself helped me out with it.
The four hand crank sewing machines we selected to use all performed reliably – I think Masterclock had given them all a going-over and a jolly good talking to before we started, and they proved to be the main attractions, as usual.
There is something special about sitting in a tent on a fine summer’s day, doing simple sewing on fascinating machines that are so easy to operate that a child can do it, having fun and eating cake! 😀
I hope we may be able to go back for at least one more session before the summer ends. Thank you so much for asking us to come Tanya!! 😀
